Keyword tools are used to find popular keywords or keyword phrases that best describe what your page is about. Search engines use these keywords and how well they relate to what the searcher is looking for determine how well your page fits into that search.
Choosing Google keywords or keyword phrase for your page and then optimizing your page for that phrase is paramount to getting organic traffic to your site.
If you want visitors you have to have traffic. To get traffic you have to rank well is SERPS (see that discussion here) for keywords and phrases that are searched everyday, preferably at least 1000 times but 500 will work.
For example: the keyword phrase "video" is a huge market. there are over 2.5 billion pages in Google that compete for that term. Trying to rank for it would be very difficult, time consuming, and more importantly... expensive.
But, "funny video clips" has only 1.1 million pages competing for that phrase. You can take that even further to "21st birthday videos" and it only has 174,000 pages of competition. See the difference?
That's called finding your "niche" and it is the key difference in having a successful and profitable site as opposed to having a site that only your family members go to.
The best way to find these "niches" is to use a good keywords tool that gives you data related to how often a phrase is searched and what kind of competition there is for that keyword or phrase.

Google Keywords Bidding:
Another important aspect of Keywords is bidding. As I said earlier, Search engines make huge amounts of money on advertising and they do it one click at a time on ads that are displayed based on the advertisers bid (much like an auction) for that keyword. The higher they bid, the higher their ad (not their search ranking) appears in strategic places on the search results page. Google Adwords is one of the largest revenue producing aspects of Search engine functions. You can bid as little as .05 per click on a keyword or phrase, or as much as the market "will bear"... into the range of $75 for high end products or services. The secret is that the advertiser does not have to pay for the ad being displayed. They only pay when the ad is clicked on. You can use the Google's adwords keyword tool or use a keywords tool that analyzes them in a more directed and specific way.
If you are considering starting an adwords campaign you must be very careful. It can be very expensive unless you know how to get you cost per click down to a level that supports your budget. We did a review on a program that really isolates keywords for a particular market and gives you realistic cost per click estimate, then shows you how to make your program even better. |
